ABOUT US
What's remembered, lives. What's archived, stays. Despite all our interest in nostalgia and passion for movies, too little has been done to document the history of Bengal's cinema from the previous century. The pandemic came as a wake-up call for us. As a passionate group of film enthusiasts, we decided to create a digital platform that inspires artists and audiences alike. That's how Bengal Film Archive (BFA) was conceived as a bilingual e-archive. At this one-stop digital cine-cyclopedia, we have not just tried to archive facts, trivia, features, interviews and biographical sketches but also included interactive online games regarding old and contemporary Bengali cinema

SOUND OF MUSIC
Sound of Music

Since the advent of the talkie era, playback has played a big role in Bengali cinema. From Kanan Devi’s Ami banaphool go to Arati Mukhopadhyay’s Ami Miss Calutta  our films have a song for every emotion. In this segment, BFA tunes in to the music composers, singers and lyricists who made all that happen. The bonus is a chance to listen to the BFA-curated list of hits across seven decades!

Players take on the role of Lloyd Irving, a young adventurer with a mysterious past, as he embarks on a quest to stop the Devil Lord and save the world. Along the way, Lloyd is joined by a cast of colorful characters, each with their own unique abilities and motivations.

include English voice acting for skits. However, players who prefer the original Japanese performances often seek the "undub" to hear the original cast's take on these dialogue sequences. Performance Quality

First, a quick refresher. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (known in Japan as Tales of Symphonia: Ratatoskr no Kishi – "Knight of Ratatoskr") is a direct sequel set two years after the original Tales of Symphonia . You follow Emil Castagnier, a timid young man fused with the spirit Ratatoskr, and Marta Lualdi, a spirited girl on a quest to save the world.

Legacy characters from the original Tales of Symphonia —including Lloyd, Colette, Genis, Raine, Kratos, Sheena, Zelos, and Presea—frequently join the party as guests. While they are fully playable and incredibly powerful, they do not gain experience points or level up, and their equipment is locked. This mechanic ensures that the narrative focus remains strictly on Emil and Marta's journey.

Emil is notoriously timid and prone to severe anxiety, but he completely shifts personalities when channeling the aggressive power of Ratatosk. The original Japanese voice acting handles this dual-personality dynamic with incredible precision. By utilizing tools like Wii Scrubber to restore the Japanese audio folder into the US version, modders created a seamless hybrid. The UNDUB edition allows players to read the complete English localization while enjoying the raw, dramatic intensity of the original voice cast during pivotal cutscenes and battle cries. Core Gameplay Dynamics

The monster-raising mechanic is often cited as a shallow Pokémon clone. But the Undub recontextualizes it through the script. Ratatosk is the "Lord of Monsters"—the summon spirit of the natural world. By capturing monsters, you are not befriending them; you are conscripting them into a war they never chose. The monsters have no dialogue, no agency. They are tools.

Because the USAundub is a fan-created modification, it is not an official product sold by Bandai Namco. To play it, gamers typically use one of two methods legally utilizing software they own: 1. Emulation via Dolphin (PC/Android)

If you are ready to play Dawn of the New World with the superior Japanese audio, follow this guide. Disclaimer: This process involves modifying game files. It requires a "clean" ISO dump of your original retail disc.

Released in North America on November 11, 2008, for the Nintendo Wii, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World carries a complex legacy. It is both a sequel and a spin-off to the beloved GameCube classic, Tales of Symphonia . While the original is often hailed as a masterpiece that introduced many Western players to the "Tales of" series, its Wii sequel received a polarized reception. Critics pointed to its recycled environments, smaller scope, and a controversial dual-protagonist system that sidelined the heroes of the original game.

OUR FILMS
This archive is essentially a celebration of cinema from Bengal through words and still images. Yet, no celebration of cinema is complete without a tribute from moving images. In this section, BFA presents short films about unsung foot soldiers, forgotten studios and ageing single screens that have silently contributed to make cinema larger-than-life. For us, their unheard stories deserve to be in the limelight as much as those of the icons who have created magic in front of the lens.

Lost?

The iconic Paradise Cinema has been a cherished part of Kolkata's cine history. Nirmal De’s Sare Chuattor marked its first Bengali screening in 1953, amidst a legacy primarily dedicated to Hindi films. From the triple-layered curtains covering its single screen to the chilled air from the running ACs wafting through its doors during intervals, each detail of Paradise’s majestic allure is still ingrained in the fond memories of its patrons. One such patron is Junaid Ahmed. BFA joins this Dharmatala resident as he recollects his days of being a witness to paradise on earth in this Bijoy Chowdhury film

House of Memories
House of Memories

Almost anyone with a wee bit of interest in cinema from Bengal can lead to Satyajit Ray's rented house on Bishop Lefroy Road. But how many know where Ajoy Kar, Asit Sen, Arundhati Devi or Ritwik Ghatak lived? Or for that matter, Prithviraj Kapoor or KL Saigal during their Kolkata years? In case you are among those who walk past iconic addresses without a clue about their famous residents, this section is a must-watch for you. We have painstakingly tried to locate residential addresses of icons from the early days of their career and time-travelled to 2022 to see how the houses are maintained now.
