The Indian judiciary is also taking an increasingly hardline stance. A landmark case in April 2026 involved the Delhi High Court and Tucows, a Canadian domain name registrar. The court found Tucows in defiance for failing to block URLs that were illegally streaming Premier League football matches. When Tucows argued it wouldn't comply unless the Indian order was also recognized in other countries, the court, in a potentially groundbreaking move, ordered the Indian government to consider action against Tucows' ability to offer services in India. This case sets a powerful precedent: any company, even one based overseas, that facilitates piracy for the Indian market does so at its own risk.
